Toys'R'Me

Helloo everyone, I got a new rocker/bouncer with vibration mode, it really makes me calmer and also let my daddy and mummy rest more.

They bought me toys as well as gifts from others. nice to play with and at least I'm not so bored anymore...
But still they need to take turns to take care of me while the other one eat... I got fed twice as well, but one of the nursery room there really stink big time...

We went for an outing in Jurong Point yesterday to buy all these stuff. Daddy and mummy also need to run some errand and at least have some nice good food outside and not get stuck at home with me, hehe...

The wait at the Singtel is so long even it's a weekday, make me so hungry while the staff went through the registration for Mio Home.

Finally we went back to the Kiddy Palace and shop for all those toys before calling it a day, it was tiring day as we spent almost half day just to do all this....

I was on my best behaviour and didn't dare to shit, so they won't need to change my diaper...
But once at home, pooooooo all out out till my clothes and mummy have a taste of it, HAHAHA!!!

1st day with mummy and confinement lady

Grandma and aunty Vivian and Uncle Taroy went home Msia this morning. Today is the 1st day me with mummy and confinement aunty.

Mummy has been constantly pumping every 3 hours to give me breast milk which is the best for me. Today without grandma around to help out, mummy has to help out to take care of me while confinment lady busy with her works. I've make mummy very tired as she has been carrying me for half a day.

Confinement aunty told mummy I am a bit sensitive to noise and always wake up from sleep when there is some noise. She need to curdle me to make me fall asleep. She says this is because I've grown and sensitive to noise. However, mummy is getting worry cause if confinement lady leave, she need to handle me alone. Mummy is getting a bit stressed up when I cried and she doesn't know what to do. As suggested by some friends and also confinement aunty, mummy have ordered a beansprout pillow and hopefully can calm me down. Meanwhile, daddy is trying to help when he is back from work. He also kind of helpless when I cried and he also dunno what's wrong with me.

Back at home now on Friday enjoying feeding, sleeping and pooing though first nite I was a bit cranky - think the room is hot. The confinement lady also didn't get much sleep.

Daddy make me listen to Stefanie's songs to calm me down and now I can sleep better as bit.

Idling at home

Grandma is here for almost a week. As i am not ready to make the grand entrance, grandma and mummy has been waiting and idling at home. Every morning grandma will went to the playground at block E to exercise as she need to "swing" her leg as advise by her doc the exercise will help her knees join. When she is back, mummy will go market with grandma for breakfast and some marketing. Grandma seems enjoying the everyday marketing but mummy kind of tired cause when she want to buy more ingredients for few days but grandma will insist to buy the next day as she is so use to the fresh ingredients everyday in Msia. Anyway, they need to go to market everyday to buy the Msia newspaper that grandma want to read.

Its kind of a standard activities to start to cook at 5pm and eat dinner at 7+pm after daddy is back from work. It is nice to have home-cooked food, but the time and effort spend is kind of tiring. Mummy will try to help out as she dont want grandma to stress her knee for long hours of standing.

Fluid level index: 7.6 (drop from 8.4 a week ago but no need to induce)

Strep B test: OK.

Everything is fine. Mummy ask Dr. Selina whether I will be arriving in a week time. Apart from the fluid level, Dr. Selina mentioned I am not engage and shouldn't be making my grand entrance in a week time. However, if there is any sign like "show", water bag burst or contraction, mummy got to get herself ready and admit to hospital.

Grandma is in town.

Finally grandma is in town last Thursday. She will be around till my arrival and will go back Ipoh before her social visit expired on 28 Nov 2009. She most probably come back for my full month celebration if mummy and daddy is planning for one.

For the pass few days, mummy has been going out with grandma to the market and the neighbourhood so that she can famililize herself with the neighbourhood. Last Friday, they went to AMK to visit mummy's cousin and my uncle mummy's bro and wife also come over on Sat before they head back to Ipoh on Sun for their break in Msia.

It was a busy, tired weekend.

P/S:
On Sat night, after our dinner at Hoshi in IMM, me and mummy got a shock as during our taxi ride home, the taxi driver have a emergency break to avoid hitting the car in front who was stopping or going REAL slow. The break kind of pushing mummy forward and she got a shock. Mummy was so worry as she was not buckle the seat belt but holding it as the journey home is only like 5 mins. Nothing happen to the tummy but mummy worry the shock affect me. She was so worry and guilty and daddy still kind of scold mummy for not putting the seat belt. Mummy was sad but her worry is more till i start to move actively at night. Phew... such a relieve to mummy. Mummy promise will put on the seat belt and be more careful especially with me inside.

@37 wks , counting down ...

Mummy is getting more gan chiong especially the Nov MTB is popping one by one. Mummy is back to office for 3 days while waiting for grandma to come over from Ipoh on Thursday. After that most probably she will be resting and waiting for my arrival.

Mummy been reading the birth stories from the Nov mummies who have popped, some are scary and some are sweet and short. However, all this are good info for mummy to prepare herself.

Mummy is looking forward to meet gradma tommorrow. With grandma around at least mummy won't feel so bored at home and if there is any signs of labour grandma is around and mummy won't be panic as daddy is working.

@36+ wks

Mummy and daddy are busy preparing for my arrival and didn't update the blog as frequent.

I am currently 36+ weeks in mummy's tummy. We went to visit Dr. Selina yesterday. Mummy GD is controlled well, however the amniotic fluid level index is at borderline low 8.4 It drop from 9.0 3 weeks ago. I am now weight 2.66kg and at 50% growth. Everything is fine except the amniotic fluid which is a small problem that Dr. Selina say we need to monitor closely. If it drop till 5, mummy will need to deliver me early as it cause some risk to me.

To make sure everything is fine, Dr. Selina check for my organ functionality, the flow of the cord and mummy have done a ctg monitoring to make sure i am 10/10 ok. Next visit will be next Sat 1 week later. Dr. Selina said as mummy have GD, she will not allow tummy to deliver pass due date. She will try to let mummy deliver naturally when D day comes unless the amnitic level is too low.

Mummy will be clearing her annual leave from tommorrow onwards. She has 11 days to clear that can't bring forward to next year if not will be forfeited. Grandma will be coming from Ipoh in few days time.

Daddy and mummy has setup the baby cot and mattress for confinement lady yesterday. Mummy will clean up the "stuff" on the dining table while she on leave at home.

Mummy hopes I can stay healthy for at least another 2 weeks where she will be more prepare. I'll try mummy ....

Sleepless nightS!!!

Mummy had 2 nights of sleepless night as the weather is terribly hot and humid even though the fan is blowing directly to her. Mummy is perspire and not able to fall asleep. She trying to find a comfortable position but can’t, gynae advise mummy to sleep on the side and every morning wakeup, mummy is having numbness on the hand and thigh. Sometimes it gets so bad that mummy wonder will it cause stroke as the whole left side of the body is numb.

Today, mummy wake up like zombie and is having headache and numbness on the hand still (sleep till the muscle near the elbow hurts when stretch) cause she can’t fall asleep till 4+am in the morning, even thought she went to bed at 12+ , but been tossing around , waking up to go toilet while daddy sleeping like a pig.

Mummy is going to fall sick if she still can’t sleep well at night. She has make up her mind, if too hot, she will just blast the air con, with me inside, mummy temperature is high + she all along can’t stand the heat, this kind of weather makes it worse. If daddy cannot stand the cold, he should go and wear clothes and put thick blanket. I support mummy, because mummy can’t sleep, means I can’t sleep too. Grrr…...

Feeling Down

Lately, mummy has been feeling frustrated and easily get agitated and stressed up over things that mummy used to able to handle.

Mummy can suddenly feel sad and cried out when thinking of grandma especially knowing grandma health is not doing well as she is diagnosed with high blood, diabetes and recently she has difficulty walking. Maybe mummy is just missing home as the last time she went back CNY or she is stressed up with my arrival as she has no idea how is it like and what to expect. Mummy is the type of person who need to know the expectation before hand, she can she can plan and expect that is coming.

Changes in hormones; stress from work and others worries all add up to mummy's roller coaster emotion. As the EDD is getting nearer, mummy start to feel the stress whether she can finished the job at work before go on maternity leave; worries whether she know what to do when the labour comes; whether can make is to the hospital; is daddy with mummy when it happen. How’s the delivery like, scare of the pain and side effects, whether can cope with me, will she gets post natal blue as there are so many rules during confinement and etc… Mummy tried hard to control and takes it slowly, but sometimes it is just out of control.

Every day , mummy is “sian” of what to eat for dinner, get frustrated with the student crowd during lunch and after work crowd as she is taking bus and train and no one is offering seats and mummy need to hold on very hard to the handle as the bus driver nowadays drive recklessly while she is sandwiched with all the students. Sometimes mummy will end up taking cab back as she is too tired and frustrated, however, she tried to reduce it as daddy been constantly remind mummy to save money and etc…

Another 2 more months to go, hopes mummy can “tahan” and daddy can be more encouraging and supportive, the last thing that mummy need is to get agitated, frustrated or stressed. She need to do things calmly and slowly(due to fatigue). Wish grandma can come early to help and accompany mummy and distract her from all this frustration, worries and stress.

Follow up visit on GD

We visited Dr. Selina last Sat to follow up on mummy's prick test reading after 2 weeks of monitoring. Dr. Selina commented mummy's need to work harder as some of the reading is not as ideal especially reading after dinner. Dr. Selina said mummy no need to do the test everyday, just twice a week, however, need to try harded to control the reading. Mummy will tried to cook dinner at home, hopefully mummy wont' be too stress to do so, as mummy have out of ideas what else to eat cause the restricted diet has been hard and caused mummy to lost appetite. Mummy lost 1+ kg but I gained 0.2kg and weight 1.6kg @Wk30& 2D.

After the visit, we went to Ikea trying to find cabinet to store my stuff. However, not able to find any and most probably we will get the Toyogo cabinet from NTUC or Giant.

We had lunch at Jackplace as well, mummy enjoy the food very much. Finally can eat something nice and wont' cause the glucose level to go up.

Gifts

Mummy received 2 gifts last Friday. One from Aunty Marjorie - a Minnie soft toy from HK Disneyland. Thanks Aunty Marjorie, I can play with it later.

Mummy is getting aunty Jacinta help to get a Thermal Pot from Robinson sales as mummy need to get one to boil or stew dishes. This thermal pot is not using any electricity and can save money on electricity. Thanks aunty Jacinta for helping to get one and thanks Aunty Kwei Heong, mummy's boss as she's paying it and give us as a gift as she says she don't know what to get for mummy later.

Wk 30 - Last Class and Chinese Name

The pre-natal class has ended with the post-natal baby care lesson. We actually still have the baby massage lesson to be arranged 1 month after birth, and one more seminar to attend at Mt E in 2 weeks time. This includes the hospital tour as well as talks on stemcord and some other baby topics.

After that we went IMM to buy more stuff for me for what's leftover from the shopping list.
Still waiting for the delivery next week for Taka stuff that was bought last week ....

Finally after a long search, I've got my chinese name as well - 關俽婷 meaning joyous and graceful... yeah!!! It sounds like Yan Teng in Cantonese and Xin Ting in Mandarin. Sounds nice and easy to the ears....

Wk 29 - Pre Natal Class 5 & Taka Fair

This is the 2nd last lesson that mummy and daddy need to attend and the topic class is about breastfeeding. The instructor this time is Sara, a lactation consultant from NUH who just give birth in May and still breastfeeding. She explained the benefits of breastfeeding, how to be successful in breastfeeding(proper latching, massage and etc...) and the problems encounter during breastfeeding. The lesson is informative and hopefully mummy won't be too stress up to breastfeed me.

After the lesson, we went to Taka fair to buy items that we still yet to purchase. Daddy spend 650+ for a Maclaren XT stroller with comfort set, a safety mattress and some others small items like wipes, detergent and etc... It was to crowded, we got to queue to pay and arrange for delivery and the items will be arrived 2 weeks later. By then mummy can start setting up my nursery room.

We finish shopping at around 5+pm and we had a early dinner at Sushi Tei. Mummy enjoy the food very much cause she has been on controlled diet for few days due to GD. After a busy day, we headed home to have a good rest.

Wk 28 - Mummy having Gestational Diabetes

Mummy has been asked to visit Dr. Selina yesterday evening ahead of the scheduled appointment on Saturday due to the OGTT result.

Mummy has gestational diabetes. Dr. Selina going through the implications with daddy and mummy if the sugar level is not controlled. Dr. Selina has advised mummy to go on strict diet (low fat, low suger but high protein and fiber) and do the prick test (home glucose test) 3 times a day as the reading is not that bad. Mummy has been advised to have more small meals instead of big full meals.

Today mummy has started doing the test in office and start to control the food that she take, she is doing fine but gets hungry very fast and stressed up trying very hard to remember to do the prick test 2 hours after meals cause sometimes the timing can't be so accurate especially there are meetings and discussions going on and of course finding food that mummy can take and stays not hungry.

Today readings is as followed:
Breakfast (2 piece for softmeal bread, with 2 tablespoon of pork floss and a glass of milk) , the reading 11.8 which is high as Dr. Selina mention try to maintain around 6.6. Most probably is due to the timing of the test cause mummy was asked to attend a discussion by boss at 9.30am and she can only have her breakfast at 10.30am. Mummy did the test at 11.40am(around 1 hour after meal) before going off for lunch at 11.50am to avoid the lunch crowd which is terrible especially mummy now can only eat certain food which the queue to get food can be as long as 20mins if the crowds join in.

Lunch reading taken at 3pm which is around 2 hours after lunch, is 4.7. It is a great number mainly because mummy has taken young tau fu without any noddle, just the ingredient and veggie and a glass of apple celery juice. The reading make a big difference but by 3pm mummy is so hungry. After the test, mummy quicky eat the fruits (1 slice of rockmelon and 1 slice of chinese pear) as tea break.

At night, the reading is 8.1 after having economic food (1 veggie, 2 meats with rice) bought by daddy the reading is above 6.6.

Mummy have recorded all the readings, hopefully after review by the Dr. Selina, it is ok. Mummy do not wish to have GD, she has no choice as it cause by hormone, she is trying hard to follow what doctor advise, at the same time coping with the stress from work, from worrying to much on my health , the fatigue, tiredness as I am getting bigger(1.4kg) and trying control her emotion the hormone is causing her to depress and down easily.

OGTT result is out!!!

Mummy receive a call from clinic asking her to come in on wednesday instead of the scheduled appointment on Saturday. Apparently, mummy's OGTT result is back and the result seems not good. Mummy is getting worry as gestational diabetes can be serious if it is not treated as it will post high risk to mummy and me.

Mummy will rush down to the clinic after work tommorrow, hopefully the result is not as bad. Ever since mummy gets the news, mummy's colleagues have been helping mummy to monitor mummy's food intake. From breakfast, lunch and tea break. No more teh from uncle Shawn, and aunties Chris been reminding mummy to eat brown rice...yucks!!!

Well, will wait for the advise from Dr. Selina tommorrow, hopefully strict diet will help and no injection or medication needed.

Wk 28th - Tests at Mt E, 4th Class

We all had to wake up early as mummy has to go Mt E to do the diabetic tests at 8.30am. She had to fast the night before, so i have to fast too!!!

There are 3 tests at 1hr interval between 8.30 am to 10.30am, and mummy have to pee and drink glucose drink plus take out blood as well.

We registered for the pre-admission to Mt E since we're there, and also registered for the hospital tour on Sept 19th as part of a $8 seminar with talks on stem cord, baby infant post natal care etc

Straight after that, we had to rushed to NUH for the 4th pre-natal class on labour...
After watching the video on the real birth and the pain involved, most mummies got scared ..

The first stage can take up to 10+hours depending on individual which can be very very painful.... We have to decide whether to go with natural birth, or with pain killer like nitrogen oxide gas, injection or epidural.

Then after stage 2 (another 30mins -4 hrs) when the baby is born, they throw the baby onto you (ewww) while they clean the baby with blood all over, then cut the cord and slowly take the placenta out...

Ppl can also donate their placenta for stem cell research to help other ppl and yourself as well. Some ppl actually take back the placenta to bury or to eat!!! It's supposed to be rich in nutrition and not inhumane to eat it in some countries...

So much bout preparation for the labour...

Wk 27th - 3rd Trimester + Pre-Natal Class 3

Mummy is going into the last trimester, yeah....

We went to the pre-natal class 3 which is the Physiotherapy Session 2, the scopes are the 3 labour stages, breathing techniques - Threat 'O', SOS sighing, and Pant-Pant-Blow panting; identify actual labour contraptions etc.

This time we have another different teacher named Joanna, the third different one each week after Patricia and Kimmy. She spent over 2.5 hours with no break again, I find that she's not that good though as she needed Deborah help to answer some basic questions.

Deborah is a Caucasian lady and she specializes in water labour which suppose to help ease the labour pain more, she was actually with us at the first physiotherapy session as well.

In the end, we were just tired and just want to go off as it's finished at 2.30pm with Q&A session shortened though some mothers wanted to ask more...

Wk 26th - Doc Visit and Prenatal Class 2

Today's we visited the gynae, and she said I'm growing healthily and weight around 1kg. Gynae told mummy to start to monitor my movement to make sure I am ok. My legs are up to my face as you can see below in the scan. I must be having long legs... haha

Mummy has to go for Oral Glucose Tolerant Test (OGTT) in 2 weeks time at Mount E to check whether mummy is diebetic. Mummy and daddy gonna pre-register with the hospital on the maternity package as well.

Soon mummy will be in the 3rd trimester, from next week onwards...

At noon, we went for the class lesson 2 - Physiotherapy with a new nurse Amy teaching. We learn how to exercise, massage, relax etc...

This time we had early lunch there at the cafeteria, and the class ended on time.

Babysitter Update

Daddy had one respond from a Filipino lady who wanted to recommend her sis-in-law from Philippines to come over. We met outside at lobby B, she has 2 children - 7 yrs i think & 10mths old, with her angmoh husband there as well - think is a sailor, quite an old guy :).

I think she thought we wanted a maid, but we aren't, so we parted but will keep in touch in case her relative want the part-time offer later on.

There's was one call as well, but once the lady heard the babysitting is for newborn, she declined it.

Due to bad response, daddy proceeded to extend the territory to Blks D-H as well. One maid responded immediately, and again she thought we wanted a maid as well. She is currently a maid in another household but her contract is expiring in Nov and looking for new master.

Mummy is getting her colleague uncle LB to help on the HDB side opposite our place as well as his cousin is able to help to ask around the old folks there.

The search goes on...

Wk 25th - Prenatal Class

Daddy and mummy attended their first prenatal class in NUH in preparation for me !!! They skipped the first lesson which is the tour in NUH as they are not delivering me there but in Mt E.

Anyway, the first lesson was 2 hours from noon, which means mummy's tummy was growling throughout though we had some breakfast earlier. There was no break, but we had some free milo from the class and buns which mummy brought along.

There are mixed of chinese, indian, malay, eurasian, local couples there, 12 couples in total. In the end we finished at 2.30pm, and we had lunch there at the canteen.

Had to take the bus back from AYE as the shuttle service stops at 2.12pm on Sat, thought the class will end at 2pm and we can hop on the last bus.

The lessons are in this order:
Hospital Tour (skipped)
Antenatal care (the 1st lesson attended)
Physiotherapy sessions (2 sessions)
The labour experience
Infant feeding
Postnatal care of mother & newborn care
Baby massage classes (schedule after birth)

Confinement Lady and Babysitter

Few weeks back, Daddy and Mummy have found a confinement lady from JB/Senai (though she's originally from Butterworth) to take care of me and mummy for the first month at $1800. The lady is small sized and 59yrs, and she got $300 as deposit when she met them.

And also looking for a babysitter to take care of me after 2mths old, daddy got 2 contacts so far - one in bkt gombak and one nearby in yuhua mkt.

Nevertheless, daddy have printed out flyers and slot into Block A-C letterboxes yesterday. Hopefully, can find one even nearer...

Name

Yeah, my daddy got my english name already which as you know is Steffie. Will let you know one day why he chose this name, hehe.... you may already guessed it...

If you're curious, the actual name Steffie is a variant of Stephanie (Greek), and the meaning of Steffie is crown (of a king/queen) or garland (The top; the thing most prized). Steffie is also a very rare female first name.

They still figuring out my chinese name... will let you know once it's finalized...

Week 24

Thanks to Auntie Chris and Uncle Ivan yesterday, got my cot from them and they spent 1+ hour fixing it with daddy. But can't move from one room to other room freely, have to remove some parts before installing back.

Today, my new room is all cleaned up by daddy with the existing bed taken apart and moved to the storeroom. The cot is placed there and all fixed up properly now.

When It Actually Begun

Let's take a quick walk down the memory lane, flashing back to where my life actually started...

This is me when I was 6 weeks old inside mummy's tummy, you can't really see me yet but just the egg..
If my calculations are right, I was conceived on Valentine's Day!!!!

Ok, week 10 - still can't see me clearly as I'm still within the 1st trimester period. Critical period though, so I need plasenta to protect me !!!

Week 21 - halfway through, yeah!!! The doc did the ultra scan and found out my gender - 95% XX !!! Now you can see my head and body clearly, doc says I'm growing just fine(~548g) over the average size.
