Wk 28 - Mummy having Gestational Diabetes

Mummy has been asked to visit Dr. Selina yesterday evening ahead of the scheduled appointment on Saturday due to the OGTT result.

Mummy has gestational diabetes. Dr. Selina going through the implications with daddy and mummy if the sugar level is not controlled. Dr. Selina has advised mummy to go on strict diet (low fat, low suger but high protein and fiber) and do the prick test (home glucose test) 3 times a day as the reading is not that bad. Mummy has been advised to have more small meals instead of big full meals.

Today mummy has started doing the test in office and start to control the food that she take, she is doing fine but gets hungry very fast and stressed up trying very hard to remember to do the prick test 2 hours after meals cause sometimes the timing can't be so accurate especially there are meetings and discussions going on and of course finding food that mummy can take and stays not hungry.

Today readings is as followed:
Breakfast (2 piece for softmeal bread, with 2 tablespoon of pork floss and a glass of milk) , the reading 11.8 which is high as Dr. Selina mention try to maintain around 6.6. Most probably is due to the timing of the test cause mummy was asked to attend a discussion by boss at 9.30am and she can only have her breakfast at 10.30am. Mummy did the test at 11.40am(around 1 hour after meal) before going off for lunch at 11.50am to avoid the lunch crowd which is terrible especially mummy now can only eat certain food which the queue to get food can be as long as 20mins if the crowds join in.

Lunch reading taken at 3pm which is around 2 hours after lunch, is 4.7. It is a great number mainly because mummy has taken young tau fu without any noddle, just the ingredient and veggie and a glass of apple celery juice. The reading make a big difference but by 3pm mummy is so hungry. After the test, mummy quicky eat the fruits (1 slice of rockmelon and 1 slice of chinese pear) as tea break.

At night, the reading is 8.1 after having economic food (1 veggie, 2 meats with rice) bought by daddy the reading is above 6.6.

Mummy have recorded all the readings, hopefully after review by the Dr. Selina, it is ok. Mummy do not wish to have GD, she has no choice as it cause by hormone, she is trying hard to follow what doctor advise, at the same time coping with the stress from work, from worrying to much on my health , the fatigue, tiredness as I am getting bigger(1.4kg) and trying control her emotion the hormone is causing her to depress and down easily.

OGTT result is out!!!

Mummy receive a call from clinic asking her to come in on wednesday instead of the scheduled appointment on Saturday. Apparently, mummy's OGTT result is back and the result seems not good. Mummy is getting worry as gestational diabetes can be serious if it is not treated as it will post high risk to mummy and me.

Mummy will rush down to the clinic after work tommorrow, hopefully the result is not as bad. Ever since mummy gets the news, mummy's colleagues have been helping mummy to monitor mummy's food intake. From breakfast, lunch and tea break. No more teh from uncle Shawn, and aunties Chris been reminding mummy to eat brown rice...yucks!!!

Well, will wait for the advise from Dr. Selina tommorrow, hopefully strict diet will help and no injection or medication needed.

Wk 28th - Tests at Mt E, 4th Class

We all had to wake up early as mummy has to go Mt E to do the diabetic tests at 8.30am. She had to fast the night before, so i have to fast too!!!

There are 3 tests at 1hr interval between 8.30 am to 10.30am, and mummy have to pee and drink glucose drink plus take out blood as well.

We registered for the pre-admission to Mt E since we're there, and also registered for the hospital tour on Sept 19th as part of a $8 seminar with talks on stem cord, baby infant post natal care etc

Straight after that, we had to rushed to NUH for the 4th pre-natal class on labour...
After watching the video on the real birth and the pain involved, most mummies got scared ..

The first stage can take up to 10+hours depending on individual which can be very very painful.... We have to decide whether to go with natural birth, or with pain killer like nitrogen oxide gas, injection or epidural.

Then after stage 2 (another 30mins -4 hrs) when the baby is born, they throw the baby onto you (ewww) while they clean the baby with blood all over, then cut the cord and slowly take the placenta out...

Ppl can also donate their placenta for stem cell research to help other ppl and yourself as well. Some ppl actually take back the placenta to bury or to eat!!! It's supposed to be rich in nutrition and not inhumane to eat it in some countries...

So much bout preparation for the labour...

Wk 27th - 3rd Trimester + Pre-Natal Class 3

Mummy is going into the last trimester, yeah....

We went to the pre-natal class 3 which is the Physiotherapy Session 2, the scopes are the 3 labour stages, breathing techniques - Threat 'O', SOS sighing, and Pant-Pant-Blow panting; identify actual labour contraptions etc.

This time we have another different teacher named Joanna, the third different one each week after Patricia and Kimmy. She spent over 2.5 hours with no break again, I find that she's not that good though as she needed Deborah help to answer some basic questions.

Deborah is a Caucasian lady and she specializes in water labour which suppose to help ease the labour pain more, she was actually with us at the first physiotherapy session as well.

In the end, we were just tired and just want to go off as it's finished at 2.30pm with Q&A session shortened though some mothers wanted to ask more...

Wk 26th - Doc Visit and Prenatal Class 2

Today's we visited the gynae, and she said I'm growing healthily and weight around 1kg. Gynae told mummy to start to monitor my movement to make sure I am ok. My legs are up to my face as you can see below in the scan. I must be having long legs... haha

Mummy has to go for Oral Glucose Tolerant Test (OGTT) in 2 weeks time at Mount E to check whether mummy is diebetic. Mummy and daddy gonna pre-register with the hospital on the maternity package as well.

Soon mummy will be in the 3rd trimester, from next week onwards...

At noon, we went for the class lesson 2 - Physiotherapy with a new nurse Amy teaching. We learn how to exercise, massage, relax etc...

This time we had early lunch there at the cafeteria, and the class ended on time.

Babysitter Update

Daddy had one respond from a Filipino lady who wanted to recommend her sis-in-law from Philippines to come over. We met outside at lobby B, she has 2 children - 7 yrs i think & 10mths old, with her angmoh husband there as well - think is a sailor, quite an old guy :).

I think she thought we wanted a maid, but we aren't, so we parted but will keep in touch in case her relative want the part-time offer later on.

There's was one call as well, but once the lady heard the babysitting is for newborn, she declined it.

Due to bad response, daddy proceeded to extend the territory to Blks D-H as well. One maid responded immediately, and again she thought we wanted a maid as well. She is currently a maid in another household but her contract is expiring in Nov and looking for new master.

Mummy is getting her colleague uncle LB to help on the HDB side opposite our place as well as his cousin is able to help to ask around the old folks there.

The search goes on...

Wk 25th - Prenatal Class

Daddy and mummy attended their first prenatal class in NUH in preparation for me !!! They skipped the first lesson which is the tour in NUH as they are not delivering me there but in Mt E.

Anyway, the first lesson was 2 hours from noon, which means mummy's tummy was growling throughout though we had some breakfast earlier. There was no break, but we had some free milo from the class and buns which mummy brought along.

There are mixed of chinese, indian, malay, eurasian, local couples there, 12 couples in total. In the end we finished at 2.30pm, and we had lunch there at the canteen.

Had to take the bus back from AYE as the shuttle service stops at 2.12pm on Sat, thought the class will end at 2pm and we can hop on the last bus.

The lessons are in this order:
Hospital Tour (skipped)
Antenatal care (the 1st lesson attended)
Physiotherapy sessions (2 sessions)
The labour experience
Infant feeding
Postnatal care of mother & newborn care
Baby massage classes (schedule after birth)
